In September 2026, the Alps Snow World in Taicang, Jiangsu, China, hosted the East China Regional Ski Social Sports Instructor Professional Skills Challenge and National Competition Qualifier.
With a total floor area of approximately 91,000 m², Alps Snow World is a large-scale indoor snow and ice complex integrating professional skiing, family snow activities, entertainment and leisure facilities.
For an indoor ski resort of this scale, maintaining a stable low-temperature environment requires more than refrigeration equipment. The building envelope and thermal insulation system play an important role in reducing cooling loss and maintaining indoor temperature stability.
HEADSTREAM participated in the project's insulation system design, material supply and on-site installation, providing a complete cold storage panel solution for the large indoor snow environment.
Cold Storage Panel Solution for Large Indoor Ski Facilities
Unlike conventional buildings, indoor ski resorts operate under significant temperature differences between indoor and outdoor environments. Poor insulation or inadequate joint sealing can increase cooling loss and create potential problems such as condensation and thermal bridging.
For Alps Snow World, HEADSTREAM focused on three key areas:
1. Thermal Insulation
The project used high-performance PU insulated sandwich panels with a closed-cell polyurethane core.
The continuous insulation layer helps reduce heat transfer through the building envelope, supporting stable low-temperature operation and reducing unnecessary cooling loss.
HEADSTREAM's ColdCrystal® Cold Storage Panel is designed for cold storage facilities and other temperature-controlled environments where thermal insulation performance is critical.
2. Air Tightness and Thermal Bridge Control
Panel joints and structural interfaces are important areas in a low-temperature building.
HEADSTREAM optimized panel connections, corner details, openings and service penetrations to improve the continuity of the insulation layer and reduce potential thermal bridges.
Proper joint sealing also helps limit air infiltration and moisture penetration, which are important considerations for large indoor cold environments.
3. Customized Installation
The project involved large-span structures, complex building interfaces and multiple trades working simultaneously.
HEADSTREAM's project team coordinated material delivery and installation with the overall construction schedule. Special installation solutions were developed for challenging areas such as large-span ceilings and complex structural connections.
The focus was on maintaining panel installation accuracy, joint sealing quality and overall insulation performance.
HEADSTREAM Cold Storage Panel for Temperature-Controlled Buildings
The Alps Snow World project demonstrates the importance of integrating insulated sandwich panels, thermal insulation design and professional installation in large temperature-controlled buildings.
Beyond indoor ski resorts, similar insulation requirements can be found in:
Cold storage warehouses
Food processing facilities
Refrigerated logistics centers
Temperature-controlled production areas
Clean rooms and controlled environments
With experience in PU/PIR sandwich panels, cold storage panels and building envelope systems, HEADSTREAM provides solutions covering system design, panel manufacturing, material supply and installation.
For indoor ski resorts and other large-scale temperature-controlled facilities, a properly designed cold storage insulation system can help improve thermal performance and support more stable long-term operation.
